String Practice - Teaching at DSD

What: String Construction Workshop (Student Projects)
Where: The Scandinavian Design College (DSD)
    When: Autumn 2009

Inspired by the static experiments of famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi - we embarked on a journey into the realm of string constructions.
The first part of the workshop was about creating a hanging construction of strings and small bags of stones.

    string01

In the second part of the workshop, the students had to mirror their string construction on to the upside of the wooden plate. But now they had to use cardboard as material.

    string02

In the final part of the workshop, the erected construction had to be covered with cardboard, in order to create a sense of space and light underneath the structures.

Ting der Vælter Ting - Teaching at DSD

    What: Workshop… I guess
Where: The Scandinavian Design College (DSD)
    When: Autumn 2009

    Things that overturns Things:
Probably a funnier title in Danish - “Ting der Vælter Ting” - more of a haiku-feel to it, I think.
Anyway, watch this video while repeating to yourself: “is someone actually getting paid to do this?”

Lights on the Dress Form - Teaching at DSD

    What: Lighting Workshop (Student Projects)
Where: The Scandinavian Design College (DSD)
    When: Autumn 2009

A lighting workshop dealing with a different approach to the development of form and design.
Instead of the usual singular-light-bulb-luminaire-workshop, we opted for a more context oriented approach by using the dress forms of the Fashion & Textile Department as backdrop to our lighting sculptures.

Warped World - Teaching at DSD

    What: Workshops (Student Projects)
Where: The Scandinavian Design College (DSD)
    When: Autumn 2009

    Warped World I:

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90803.2:
Starfleet Command has ordered starcruiser TH Enterietta and its crew to start a preliminary study of the Arkidesi Galaxy in the outermost areas of the Kappel-quadrant. The scanners initial reports are positive and indicates 72.3 percent chance of intelligent life in the galaxy.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90803.3:
TH Enterietta has now made contact with the the first planet in Arkidesi Galaxy. The first indications are weak, but suggest surprising shapes and designs.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90803.6:
We have now established full visual contact with the planet, or rather what appears to be a materialized wormhole… a never previously observed physiological form. Mainframe computer has dubbed the plane complex WormOne.
Our team of specialists has just begun work on making a physical reconstruction of WormOne. Subsequently, they will try to construct an accurate mathematical model of the complex, which may be transferred back to Starfleet Command. We dare however not take any chances with the proton shields.

    End here…

    vormone02

There Is A Worm In The Wormhole - Warped World II:

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90813.4:
TH Enterietta has reached a position where it is now possible to investigate WormOne at close range. A team of scientists has just left the mothership in a small lander and is now approaching WormOne rapidly. The first reports are expected at any moment…

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90814.2:

The first reports from the lander has arrived and describes a yet unknown form of life on WormOne. The scanners indicates unprecedented values.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90814.5:
The crew onboard the lander have now full visual contact with the life forms on WormOne. It appeas to be a colony of gigantic worms, which seems to enclose almost the entire planet. In other words, there is a worm in wormhole!
The lander and its crew continues forward towards the appointed position, but now takes all necessary precautions.

    End here…

    vormone04

Shields Up We Are Going In - Warped World III:

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90815.7:
The situation has taken a dramatic development. The team of experts onboard the lander has been attacked during the approach to WormOne and is currently caught in what appears to be a trimagnetic shield around the planet. The trimagnetic shield - only faintly visible to the human eye - appears on the chromatic radar as an intriguing composition of lines stretching around almost the entire planet.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90816.5:
Still no change in the situation. The landing crew is still caught in the web around WormOne. All options kept open, including a possible evacuation.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90816.5:
The situation is now out of control. The landing craft with our team of experts is now directly fired upon and has already received several hits. There is casualty onboard and we must therefore immediately - or as soon as I finished this message - initiated the evacuation of the crew.

    Captain’s Log, Star Date 90816.6:
The crew of the expedition to Wormone has now been beamed safely back onboard TH Enterietta. We turn around and pull back. Detailed documentation of the trimagnetic shield is under way.

    End here…

Spring 2009 - Teaching at DSD

    What: Workshops (Student Projects)
Where: The Scandinavian Design College (DSD)
    When: Spring 2009

El-Dubai on the Water (Mars Attacks, Part I):
Two days introduction workshop at the beginning of the semester.

    The story:
The Great Emir of Dubai - better known as Al-Múli Manh Kanfin de Udaf - has bought a piece of land … or rather piece of sea in the Persian Gulf and is about to build a new Atlantis on an island in the sea. Moreover, he obviously needs help and it is now your (the students) job to come up with a great proposal for this new settlement.

    Mars Attacks

When Mars Attacks… (Mars Attacks, Part II):
How often do you get to trash your students work..? well, hardly ever, but this time we sure did, and we even had a great time doing so… And hey its all part of the narrative..!

    The story:
Oh no … just as the new Arab Al-Atlantis is finished, it is invaded by previously unknown creatures from outer space - more specifically planet Arkîparasitês.
These new aliens are attacking and killing the inhabitants of the city all the while they build new parasite-like structures on top of Al-Atlantis existing skyline.
Fortunately, Al Múli-Manh, His Court and a small part of Al-Atlantis’s residents are able to flee into the mainland, where they immediately start combating the Arkiparasites and establish the new resistance, the Al-Atlantis Brigades.

    Mars Attacks

We Are of to Save the World (Mars Attacks, Part III):
In the final week of the workshop, we changed the scale of the model, and used it as backdrop for individual projects.

    The story:
The resistance is over and the Al-Atlantis Brigades has prevailed. But alas, at what price. Not only did the Great Emir - and Al-Atlantis creater - Al Múli-Manh die in the heroic final attack when he single-handedly flew his jetfighter into the nuclear reactor of the arki-parasites mothership .
But the majority of the world’s population is either killed or severely weakened by the ice-cold nuclear winter, which has subsequently fallen over the world.
300 years after the heroic victory in the fight for freedom, a group of descendants of Al Múli-Manh and his court, are returning back to the sad remnants of Al-Atlantis and begins the rebuilding of the once magnificent city on the ruins of the old structures.
Unfortunately, the intense nuclear fallout of the postwar years, has dramatically changed humanity’s DNA, so a person today is twenty times larger than in Al Múli-Manh and his court’s time.
Now it is your (the students) task to create the new Al-Atlantis … in 1:50

    Lighting Design Workshop:
An open process workshop, made in coorporation with Sebastian Kjersen, Swedish Designer

    Den Skandinaviske Designhøjskole

Admission Test for the Danish Schools of Architecture:
The admission test consisted of two parts.
In the first part you should observe an existing, defined space in the city, countryside or on the water, where special events take place.
In the second part of the task you should add an - abstract - architectural addition to the site that promotes and adds something to the selected location.
Task constraints were that each half of the task should be limited to an A3 sheet and that you could only use pencil and max. two pieces of colored chalk in your drawings.

Out of the 25 who sent in, 24 went on to the final two-day admission test.

MediaedgeCIA II

    What: New office space
    Where: Copenhagen
    When: 2008-2009

In autumn 2008 SuperKo did a design proposal for the Copenhagen branch of MediaedgeCIA, part of the worldwide media/communication-company MEC.

    MediaedgeCIA II

This was our second assignment from MediaedgeCIA, and just as the first time we did a proposal for MediaedgeCIA, the job was supposed to be “quick and dirty”. The design is therefore not necessarily meant to be buildt, but also to serve as inspiration.

The overall idea behind the design scheme is simpel. A string - with all needed functions integrated - is layed out in the open space, making all working within the office, feel connected to each other, and thereby - hopefully - creating a greater sense of belonging together.
